WE MISTAKE FORCE FOR POWER What does it mean to walk this beautiful Earth with true power and heart? In our ever-more complex and attention-demanding culture we have lost sight of our power as men. We mistake force for power and fritter away our vital energy trying to force life to do the things we have been told are right. And the result is a loss of power and a profound disconnection from the wisdom inherent in Nature.
For the most part we have lost the rituals and markers that welcomed us into manhood. Not all, but most of the rituals that still remain have become little more than ‘status’ activities and of little or no significance to the boys making the transition into manhood. We have steadily lost the wisdom and guidance of elders, and we find ourselves facing a world that seems to be dangerous and hostile. We frequently feel like unwelcome guests in our own lives.
THE SPELL OF 'FORCE' Men in our culture are increasingly trapped under the spell of ‘force’ - constantly trying to live up to a false sense of power propagated by the media and systems that rely on us feeling disempowered and afraid to fully express ourselves as men. Sadly, for the most part, we have no clear idea how to even begin fully expressing our own nature.
The eradication of our natural power has been going on for generations; steadily building up to the insanity we have seen playing out in the 20th century and now the 21st century. We have been schooled to chase after money and position. And as our ancient spirituality and connection to nature has gradually been eradicated and replaced with the ‘religion' of money, our power is now obediently handed over to faceless corporate men, playing with our lives, manipulating imaginary money on the stock market.
DEEP-ROOTED FEAR OF THE FUTURE Even though we feel deep in our soul that our power and happiness cannot be found in this corporate version of life, we somehow struggle on through the lie that our power sits purely in the ‘physical’ world, and that we must constantly acquire more and more things. Our inability to live up to this construct only makes life seem meaningless and triggers a deep-rooted fear about the future. This fear is then transmitted out to our partners, our children, our friends and our communities. And so the wheels of fear and force keep turning.
The net result of being constantly bombarded with a lie is reflected in the massive increase in stress related illness, spiralling addictions, social violence, dysfunctional relationships and obsessive worry – the nagging goad that sits in the back of our attention telling us that we will fail and that our lives will come to nothing. With all our energy devoted to trying to solve the ‘problem’ of our lives there is no change of knowing who we really are. 
Over the course of my work as a shaman and guide I find myself speaking to more and more men that have simply had enough of the struggle to conform to a lie. My job as a shaman is simply to bring people back to spirit, to avert the gaze away from all that is not true and back towards the source of all power, beauty and happiness.
The Vision Quest is one of the ways in which we start to refocus our attention back to the truth of who we are. The Vision Quest is how we as men start to unplug from the lie of psychological fear and anxiety, discovering how sweet life can be when our identity is no longer lost in the misery of living a lie. And in the acceptance and the willingness to place ourselves back in the hands of nature and ask for guidance and wisdom, we become ripe for transformation and the discovery of our power as men to live with open hearts and wisdom. As we come to the Vision Quest, we re-enact an ancient ritual that has never handed over its power, and we reinstate our right to express and properly direct our creativity and our intelligence out into the world. In the Vision Quest we can see clearly that nothing can ever be brought into existence in the physical world. In the clarity of nature we see that force is what drains all the wonder out of life and sets us adrift.
In the Vision Quest we stand together as brothers and support one another to look directly into the eyes of our fears and allow the flames of truth – the truth of who and what we are – to burn away everything that does not serve our heart in this life. And in the Quest we discover our power to support women and nurture their beauty and feminine qualities, we discover our power as lovers, as fathers, as uncles, as brothers and as friends so that we can transmit truth and refuse anything that would have us fall back into the world of force. 
In the Vision Quest we are literally changed forever. We ask to be shown our most joyful and alive path, and we ask nature to cleanse us of the fear that stops us doing what we know is right. In the Quest we set aside the realm of the mind and step into the vastness of being to catch sight of the bigger picture of our lives. We see how true power needs no force because it flows directly with the miraculous movement of life-energy. And in the Quest we call upon our dreams so that we can know which dreams carry power and which dreams to let go of.
And with the power of truth ignited in our being we discover new ways to navigate the world of ‘things’; we bring back new methods to communicate and a new sense of our physicality as men to embrace life fully and openly. So although the world is still the world we see things more clearly, and we begin to notice that life is always inviting us to live our power!
Davide De Angelis Davide De Angelis was born in London, England. He is a shaman, philosopher, speaker and visionary guide. He is also a musician and passionate about exploring innovative business ideas and creative paths to living abundantly. Start: 7.30 pm Finish: Sunday 7th March @ 8am - breakfast together Where: Hampstead, northwest London Recommend: On the lead up to the Vision Quest (2-days before) refrain from stimulants such as caffeine and alchohol. Also refrain from spicy foods and red meats for 2-days before the Quest. Keep your diet simple with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit. On the day of the quest have breakfast and a filling but plain lunch such as organic brown rice or quinoa with steamed vegetables (no red meats – if you are not vegetarian, plain white fish is fine). Do not eat anything after 2.00pm on the day of the Quest. Organic energy drinks will be provided to anyone who needs them during the quest and any other organic energy foods to assist with your Quest will also be provided. At 8.00am the next morning we eat breakfast together back at my home which is also provided as part of the Quest. I introduce you to the Vision Quest process and outline the structure for the evening and night. I will explain and provide everything you need in order to receive profound insights and answers. My job is to hold the energetic space for you to do the work that needs to be done. There will be an opportunity to ask me specific questions about the Quest and receive guidance on how to evoke answers from Nature. I will explain the shamanic process for releasing fear and calling back your power. We will then create sacred space together and set our intentions with meditation and sound.
